Ashby/Pithiviers Town Twinning Association
Ashby has been twinned with the town of Pithiviers (50 miles SW of Paris) since 1960! Each year a group from one town goes to visit citizens of their twin town for a long weekend in June - in odd numbered years (2012, 2014) our friends from Pithiviers will visit us. In even years (2013, 2015) we visit them. Through the associations on both sides of the Channel we match people up with a host family - some families/singles/couples have been matched up for several decades and keep in regular contact over and above the "formal" visits.
In addition, we are a conduit to anyone else who wishes to take advantage of the link e.g. students wanting to spend time in France to improve their French, sports groups wanting an overseas fixture, music groups etc wanting to perform overseas etc.....and we obviously host similar when such individuals or groups from Pithiviers come here.
We also have an active social programme (generally one event per month) here in Ashby with the objective of both meeting together and raising funds to host our French visitors when they come next year. (for the exchange visits, the "visiting" group only their transport, with the "hosting" group paying for the social programme arranged during the visit)
It is not compulsory to speak French - just to have an open mind about our nearest European neighbours.
Anyone interested in learning more about the Association is welcome to contact me either by e-mail or by phone .
